Fall 2007

Rush:
Fall Rush began with the kickoff in Hornbake Plaza, where hundreds of interested rushes were able to gain information about our chapter through flyers, pamphlets, and an entertaining slide show put together by our Prytanis, Nicholas Colabucci. Rush chairmen, Jeremy Weissman and Dan Mooney coordinated rush events that included Wings with the brothers at Cornerstone, a tailgate before the season opener, and a Crab feast donated by out alumni Frater Dr. Dan Kraus of Terrapin Chiropractic. In total, we recruited 13 new members, tying for first place in overall fraternity recruitment for the fall semester. Rush would not have went so well if it was not for the great turnout from our brothers, who showed the rushes our strong sense of brotherhood, which also makes Beta-Delta such a unified and thriving fraternity on the University of Maryland Campus.

Athletics:

In the fall semester, TKE athletics competed in several sports. We had teams  competing in 4 vs. 4 volleyball, 7 on 7 flag football, and 6 on 6 outdoor soccer. With  one team being entered into the volleyball A league, the TKE team was ousted in the  first round of the playoffs. Two teams were entered into the flag football leagues,  one in the A (competitive) and one on in the B (recreational) league. Due to  miscommunication in the Intramural Sports office, the B league was unable to  compete in playoffs. However, the A league team was ousted from the playoffs by  the #2 seed, Pike, in a close 19-14 game. 6 on 6 soccer also showed great  competitiveness by making the playoffs as a #2 seed, yet again being ousted by Pike  in a shootout finish 3-2. TKE athletics look to go all the way next semester in 5 on 5  basketball, indoor and outdoor soccer (looking to repeat as outdoor champions), 6 on  6 volleyball, and 4 on 4 flag football.

Philanthropy:
The brothers of the Beta Delta chapter worked together as a unit this semester to bring in a very respectable sum to contribute to the further research in the fight against Alzheimer disease. Before each home football game, while other Fraternities were busy tailgating, a group of brothers would set up contribution stands outside of Byrd Stadium and receive generous donations from fellow Terps and Terrapin Alumni. In addition, we co- sponsored a rock concert at the Santa Fe café performed by local fan favorites The Great Scott on November 13th. All proceeds from the event went to charitable causes, including our own.

Fundraising:
Fundraising chairman Scott Greenberg and Chrysopholes Steven Grella set up some great activities this past semester to raise money for the chapter. We worked concessions at Cheerleading event at Cole Field House, a few sporting events at Comcast, and most notably Redskins games every Sunday. These were very successful, and we hope to build upon them in the spring so we can continue to keep up the good times.

Social/Homecoming:
This semester was a great time socially, we had numerous socials with all different sororities. We also had a Dated Party at Bar in Washington DC on February 27th. Homecoming Week was an incredible success, we were paired with Delta Delta Delta, We put on strong performances in skits, talent competition, athletics, and community service, in which we placed 1st. Also, socially we had a great time with the Tri-Delt women. Our events included a hayride at butlers orchard and Laua party among others.
