April 2008

Greek Week
April has been a very active month for TKE here in College Park.  Greek Week with Alpha Phi was a blast!  We placed in serveral events, always had a strong showing, and of course had a lot of fun!

Fundraising at
National's Stadium
When the Washington National's new stadium opened, so too did a fundraising opportunity for TKE.  Brothers have been trained and certified, and have been making money for the chapter by vending in the stadium.  If you see a brother vending at a game- make sure you buy from him!

Maryland Day Volunteering
Maryland day was a busy day for beta delta.  Some members of the chapter worked concessions at Byrd Stadium, while other brothers helped Dell take free pictures of children and their families with the statue of Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog outside of the Stamp Student Union.  TKE is proud of our volunteer work, and our commitment to Kermit.

TKE teams up with the Thirsty Turtle for Philanthropy
On Monday, April 28, we teamed up with the Thirsty Turtle.  In exchange for our work as promoters, we received a dolllar for each person that paid cover that night.  We made $294, and hope to continue this partnership in the future for both philanthropy and fundraising.

Application for 3 Fraternity Row
Finally, TKE's application for the house at 3 Fraternity Row has been submitted.  Check back in mid-May for a possible housing announcement.

April 2008

On April 7 we hosted a BBQ on the 4800 block of College Avenue for the residents living in the area.  The brothers grilled burgers and hotdogs, and met some of the neighbors.

Greek week will be Saturday, April 12 to Monday April 28.  Here is the schedule:

March 2008

Congratulations to the Zeta pledge class!  After 6 weeks of new member education, we now have 19 more brothers in our chapter.  Special thanks to Pledge Educator Brett Morales and frater Jon Bell-Feins for the time they put in guiding these new fraters.

Frater Morales had this to say on the pledge education process:

"The new member program consists of three main parts and is implemented for a total of six weeks. The new member program is comprised of volunteer work on campus and throughout the community, set time to practice and learn strong academic habits, and leadership development workshops. This semester more than ever we, the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon, have taken advantage of the six weeks in preparing our new members to immediately become passionate contributing members of the campus and community. This is a trend which we fully intend to carry on and improve upon with the upcoming new member classes. We feel our new member program this semester was a huge success. We’re confident in the future of our fraternity knowing these new members will be a imperative part of it."

February 2008

Spring rush has come and gone, and TKE's beta delta chaper now has 19 highly motivated new members.
Thank you to all brothers and alumni whose help was vital for the recruitment process.

Special  thanks to fraters: Dan Mooney and Jeremy Weissman (Rush Chairs).

Frater Dempsey had this to say about our spring rush,

"We hit the ground running at the start of spring rush. We stuck to the script at kickoff in the Stamp Student Union, with new Prytanis, Matthew “Brodi” Zambrotta leading our fraternity sales pitch as the main differnece. Our rush events that included wings with the brothers, along with an outing to Jerry’s Subs and Pizza, and sushi at Hanami Japanese Restaurant."

In other news, the gentlemen of TKE have accepted an invitation from the lovely ladies of Alpha Phi to be paired together for "Greek Week" this April!
